Hello, Poetry Friend
Callie Feyen, over at Tell Me A Story That’s True, wrote her poem for Psalm 10 a while back. Today it’s my turn.
On a recent Saturday morning, after pencilling out the weekly examen offered by Pray As You Go, I was contemplating the subject of enemies in the Psalms. Unlike David, I am not a warrior king. Most of my enemies are things I pick up and play with, blithely assuming they can do me no harm.
Much like Junie B. Jones and her obsession with scissors.
Oh, Barbara Park, we lost you too soon. All the bestest words in my poem are hers.
Psalm 10 Prayer for Deliverance from Enemies with Junie B. Jones Um, I snuck the bestest shiny scissors from the top drawer and was very thrilled to finally open and shut them and get years and years of practice to become a beauty shop guy. So I put my stuffed animals on my beauty chair with lots of pillows to get their beautifulest fur trimmed. It was the funnest fun ever! It was perfect, probably! And I trimmed my dog Tickle and sang a happy song. But Mom found out and that woman is speedier than she looks and she yelled real loud, There is no beauty shop in this house, young lady! and took away my forever scissors. But then I remembered the extra scissors in the middle drawer and snip snipped to make my bangs even-steven. Then I got fusstration inside me because I got sprigs that’s why. And my only hat has devil horns and I told Mom a little fib about crazy hat day and wore it to school. My teacher, Ms., asked, What’s the story here? And I told her and she gave me tissues and called Dad. And he took the devil horns off my head and said, Lovely. Dad took me to Maxine who is a real beauty shop guy with years and years and years of practice and she fixed my sprigs. Dad took away my extra scissors and I said, Sorry, I did learn a lesson. I mean it mean it mean it. And after Dad left the room I smiled a sneaky smile and I opened the bottom drawer. More extra scissors. –Megan Willome

This made me smile by bigestest morningest smile!
