Hello, Poetry Friend
Most people who have undergone spiritual direction have done so for six months, maybe a year. Call me exceptional, but I have been with my director for eleven years. All I can say to that is, 1) thank you, and 2) it’s been a heckuvan eleven years. That’s worthy of a poem, don’t you think?
So grateful that Kosmeo Magazine included “Psalm 30: Flagless Memorial Day” in its Autumn 2024 issue, Bread. The title comes from E.B. White’s stunning essay “Death of a Pig,” which was written before he wrote Charlotte’s Web. I like to think that after he tried and failed to save one pig, he saved another one—Wilbur.
Here’s the beginning of my poem:
PSALM 30: FLAGLESS MEMORIAL DAY When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down (and didn’t know it, though I sang the hymn), Lord, you veered me to the hiding place, reoriented my shoulder away from so shiny a pile of shards. –Megan Willome Read the rest at Kosmeo.
Happy poeming!
Megan
